Handmade in Toronto at Last Shoes’s studio, the Stitchdown Mule is where tradition meets self-expression. Crafted with care and intention, each pair carries the mark of quality, functionality, and creativity.
Upper: Cut from a single piece of Saskatchewan grey bison leather — chrome-tanned with a vegetable over-tan for rich character and durability. This leather wraps cleanly around the heel for a stable, supportive fit.
Lining: SoftNappa Gold cowhide. Soft, breathable, and designed to mold comfortably to your foot over time.
Fit: Built on a vintage 1970s last, graded from men’s size 3 to 13, making it truly gender-neutral with an inclusive fit (more sizes coming soon!).
Midsole & Outsole
- Veg-tan leather midsole
- Oak bark tanned leather outsole, made to last
- Blake and welt stitched for strength and easy resoling
Heel: Low heel with a replaceable rubber lift. We recommend adding a rubber half-sole when the leather begins to flex, ensuring longevity.
This is more than a shoe — it’s a collaboration between Grays and Last Shoes, two Toronto makers who share a belief in quality materials sourced close to home.

Last Shoes was born out of a desire to offer footwear that transcends the ordinary. Each pair is crafted using high-quality North American leathers, sourced from producers they personally meet, ensuring that every material reflects their commitment to quality and sustainability. At Last Shoes, they believe in creating footwear that isn't just meant to be worn, but to be experienced—shoes that become a part of your story.

The shoes fit true to size, like any quality leather product, there is a break-in period where they will run a touch tighter as they are moulding to your individual foot.
They come complete with a secondary insole, if you are wearing with thicker socks, they can be removed for a better fit at first.

We suggest to customers to set up a follow-up appointment after the mules have broken in to have a ½-sole protector added. The shoes are resoleable, but adding the half-sole before too much wear saves both material and cost later down the line.
In the best interest of the continued quality of the shoe, please only bring them to an experienced shoemaker such as Last Shoes to perform any repairs.
