a collaboration between AVYN and grays, an exploration of 3 styles made with Ontario wool, designed, cut and sewn in Italy. three different fabrics, from colouring, to feel, to drape, to sheep breed.
The fabric is pure wool, processed without any toxic chemicals. The raw fibre comes from small Ontario farms where the animals are primarily, or solely pasture raised. It was processed, spun, and woven in one location in Ontario.
this piece is a twist long coat, with a tailored fit. inner folded lapels with high neck closure. split open end sleeves. two front welt pockets with flap. hook and bar closures. hand stitched finishings.
the imperfections in the weave and textile are what make these pieces truly special, one of a kind, no two the same. there is still bits of the farm imbedded in the garment.

Making it here in Ontario
Ontario sheep is where this all begins. Raised just a 2 hour drive from the mill and our store. They live and breathe the same air we do, so naturally we are connected to the sheep and their fleece.
We visited the farm with avyn to take her through everything we loved about building garments with ontario wool.
Meeting in the barn at Black Sheep farm to discuss the many many benefits of choosing locally sourced fibre.
You truly can feel the difference, the fleece resonates differently when working with fibre that has not been chemically processed. The life is still in the fleece.
Processed at Wave fibre Mill in Seguin, Ontario. Co-owner Heather is looking over the spinning machine making sure everything is running smoothly.
We wanted to spin our fibre as small as we could so the coat would not be be too heavy and would drape nicely as it falls off the body.
It takes many times looking at samples and swatches to think about what a garment would be.
