Danish fashion and lifestyle brand Skall Studio was founded in 2014 by the sisters Julie and Marie Skall, way before conscious fashion became a common word in the industry.
With a focus on orderliness in all aspects of the production, fur and leather free collections and styles in natural materials made to last season after season as well as a heart for craftsmanship, Skall Studio is known as a value-based brand, striving to make a difference in the fashion industry. This is all rooted in a strong family story.
The Skall story took its beginning in the coastal area of Northern Jutland around the 20th century where Julie and Marie’s great-grandfather and his brothers collected seashells on the beach and sold them for chicken feed to earn a living. This is also how the family got its last name Skall, meaning seashell in Danish.
Many years later the Skall sisters walked the same beaches – and became fascinated by the seashells which they collected in their small buckets, without knowing how essential these shells would later become. “Everything is connected,” is the sisters most important saying.
NATURAL MATERIALS
Our styles are made in natural material such as Danish wool, RWS certified wool, organic cotton, linen from regenerative agriculture in Europe and recycled cotton, wool, and cashmere. Because we believe natural and recycled materials are better for people and the planet.
MADE TO LAST
When we put a new style into the world, we want it to last for as long as possible. For that reason, all styles are made in high quality materials and designed to be worn season after season, year after year.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Craftsmanship is essential to us. When we support local craftsmanship, in Denmark and in the rest of the world, we contribute to keeping these unique crafts alive and at the same time support cultures with strong historical roots. Living in a globalized world, we see this as crucial – from our signature knitwear made in Denmark to our collaborations with Indian weavers. We also offer knitting patterns to encourage you to knit at home – and at the same time contribute to even more craftsmanship and local production.
