A sweater that needs to be felt to believe. The softest hand feel of a cotton you can imagine.
A beautiful fit that drapes with ease, a tight neck hole gives a refined look, with long cuffs that can be rolled to expose the black underside colour.
Can be worn inside out for a different colour look.
Kota explains "There was a craftsman at the dye factory in Japan, around my age, and tucked away quietly at the very back of a rack was what he called a “failed” experiment he’d tried just for fun.
It was a really complex colour — not something you could describe in just one word — with different tones mixed together, and I was immediately drawn to it. When I asked how he’d done it, he said something that made no sense at all to me: “I bleached and dyed it at the same time.” When I asked why it was considered a failure, he told me it was because the colour didn’t come out the way he’d expected, and also because it was hard to reproduce.
But I thought it would be interesting if this feeling could exist in knit, so I pushed a bit and asked him to try it on knitwear. He explained that the result changes depending on conditions like temperature and humidity, and that the timing of sample making (winter) and production (summer) is completely different — so the colour can vary quite a lot from piece to piece."

Kota Gushiken
Kota Gushiken is a Tokyo knitwear designer known for clothes that are weird, wearable and made with real skill.
After his last showroom wrapped, he needed to get out of Tokyo. He couldn’t choose between Miyako Island and Bali, picked Bali for no real reason, and booked a flight for the next night. There, he met someone who told him, “flow your mind, but don’t follow your mind.” Back in Japan, his acupuncturist suggested they’d been talking about mui: being natural, without intention.
AW26 is Gushiken’s attempt at that. Rather than forcing a concept, he followed whatever turned up: yarns he happened across, colours that popped into his head, the people he met along the way.
